Research Impact speaks to the heart of the University of Leicester's mission, defined at its inception almost a hundred years ago. Conceived in the aftermath of the Great War, the men and women who founded our institution reflected their intentions in our motto: Ut Vitam Habeant - “so that they may have life”. Their wish was that the terrible sacrifices made by a generation should be commemorated through education and research which would change the world for the better. The University’s foundation represented a beacon of hope for the future.
Today, the impact of our research is delivering on this promise. Our medical research is finding new ways to treat life-limiting conditions such as diabetes, cancer, respiratory illness and cardiovascular disease. Our science and engineering expertise is driving innovation in technology, manufacturing and management of the environment. Our social science is changing public policy and practice across multiple sectors. Our arts and humanities research is enriching lives, cultures and perceptions on a global scale. Our impact is as rich and diverse as the research which underpins it. The Awards will single out our most significant achievements - and showcase research which shows exciting promise for future impact.
The inaugural Research Impact Awards at University of Leicester will publicly acknowledge the impact of our world-leading insights and expertise. Winners in five categories will be announced at a celebratory evening which will draw in those who make our research impact possible - our collaborators, partners and funders.
